Finishes 2nd with YART Yamaha Official EWC Team at 24 Hours of Le Mans Moto
Bridgestone fulfilled its promise of a glorious return to the 24 Hours of Le Mans with a thrilling second place with the YART Yamaha Official EWC Team on 16th April.
On their first race back in world championship motorcycle competition, Bridgestone tyres led the race for more than 20 hours, including right through the night period. After a relentless duel, the YART team finally ceded first place to their fellow factory-backed Yamaha team by less than 20 seconds, the narrowest margin ever between 1st and 2nd at the 24 hours of Le Mans Moto. The two teams finished 12 laps ahead of the rest of the field.
Mandy Kainz, Team Manager - YART Yamaha Official EWC Team commented: “This was a sensational performance for our first world championship race with Bridgestone. We knew from the development work and practice sessions that Bridgestone racing tyres would give us the pace, consistency and endurance we needed, and this was proved in the race – hour after hour, day and night!”
Nico Thuy, Head of Europe - Motorcycle at Bridgestone Europe was equally delighted: “Bridgestone is thrilled to be on the podium in our first race back at the highest level of motorcycle racing. Congratulations to our YART team partners; it doesn’t get much tougher than the 24 hours Moto at Le Mans. From the way our tyres performed, I believe we can go one better in the next endurance race.”
Bridgestone also supplied racing tyres to the F.C.C TSR Honda team which finished a very commendable 5th after a flawless and consistent display of endurance racing.
Bridgestone, the world’s largest tyre and rubber company, announced its return to top-tier motorcycle racing in February 2017, with its decision to supply two teams in the prestigious FIM Endurance World Championship (EWC) series: Austrian-based YART Yamaha Official EWC Team, and the F.C.C. TSR Honda team.
The FIM EWC is a worldwide championship competition consisting of five races: two in France and the remaining three in Germany, Slovakia, and Japan. The 24 Hours Moto at Le Mans was the second race of the current season which began in September 2016 and will end with the Suzuka 8 Hours endurance race at Japan’s Suzuka Circuit on 30 July 2017.
