Bridgestone heads to Suzuka for motorbike endurance showdown

date: 26/07/2017

Bridgestone will race in the thick of the action at the Suzuka 8 Hours in Japan on 30th July, the grand finale of the FIM Endurance World Championship (EWC) 2016-2017.

Bridgestone tyres have won the last eleven Suzuka 8 Hours motorcycle races and the company is determined to extend this run to 12. Success breeds success: this year at the Suzuka 8 Hours, 31 of the 69 teams on the starting grid have chosen to race on Bridgestone tyres.

For some the stakes are even higher: in addition to the race itself, the EWC world title is up for grabs. With 50% extra points available for the season’s final endurance race, three teams still have a shot at the title – including the Bridgestone-contracted Austrian based Yamaha Official EWC team (YART). Track suspense and drama are guaranteed for the full 8 hours.

Nico Thuy, Head of Europe – Motorcycle, at Bridgestone Europe is optimistic: “Bridgestone teams have enjoyed great success in the Suzuka 8 Hours and we are keen to continue the winning streak this year. But whichever team wins the Suzuka 8 Hours or the world title on Sunday, the race will be a thriller!”

Bridgestone, the world’s largest tyre and rubber company, announced its return to top-tier motorcycle racing in February 2017, with its decision to supply two teams in the prestigious FIM Endurance World Championship (EWC) series: Austrian-based YART Yamaha Official EWC Team, and the F.C.C. TSR Honda team.

The FIM EWC is a worldwide championship competition consisting of five races: two in France and the remaining three in Germany, Slovakia, and Japan. The Suzuka 8 Hours endurance race at Japan’s Suzuka circuit on 30th July 2017 is the fifth and final race of the current season which began in September 2016.
